Understand How to Replace Your Vehicle’s Brake Light

It’s no surprise that brake lights would burn out at some point because they are used on every drive, and they go on and off constantly. If you have a light bulb broken or burnt out for one or both of your brake lights? We’ll help you.

If you want to know how to change a brake light at home, follow these easy steps:

  1. Find the Correct Bulbs

  2. First, figure out what kind of bulbs you need. Check your owner’s manual to see the correct bulb size and voltage for your specific make and model. You can purchase light bulbs from a service center or auto parts store. It’s the first part of understanding how to replace a brake light. When you pick up these bulbs, feel free to ask questions about this task.

  3. Remove Tail Light Housing

  4. Once you have the replacement bulb, remove the red-colored lens that hides the brake light bulbs. Typically, you can do this with a Phillips-head screwdriver. After the cover is out of the way, remove the bad bulb. It’s the second step to learning how to replace a brake light.

  5. Change the Brake Light Bulb

Before you install the new brake light bulb, apply a bit of dielectric grease to the end. This grease prevents corrosion and rust. It will also make it easier to remove the bulb when it’s time to change the brake light again. Put the brake light new bulb in place and reattach the tail light housing. You’ll be back to driving safely around the Aransas Pass area again.
